“My name is Marina, as of the sea, but I wasn’t called that until much later.”

From Pittacus Lore’s Lorien Legacies: The Power of Six.

As their planet (Lorien) was being destroyed by an invading species (Mogadorians), nine children (the Garde) were sent to Earth as a chance to save humanity; over the next ten years, the Mogadorians have started their Earth-takeover plans; the first three members of the Garde have been killed, and several of the remaining Garde are trying to find each other (Six found and helped John in the previous book).  Marina (Seven) is desperate to develop her abilities, but her guardian refuses to acknowledge that part of their life, so Marina is stuck in a convent, befriending a young orphan named Ella.  When Marina accidentally activates an item in her Garde chest, it notifies John and the Mogadorians of her position, so she must run to survive.  Meanwhile, John (Four) is on the run again from the aliens trying to kill him, but this time he is joined by his guardian shapeshifting-dog, Bernie Kosar, and his new friend, Sam.  The three members of the Garde manage to meet up, fighting Mogadorians all along the way, but a mysterious website posting quickly has them splitting up again; Six and Marina head to Spain to look into Lorien symbols that are being carved into mountains and John heads off with Sam to see if they can locate a Mogadorian base hidden somewhere in the mountains of West Virginia.

The second book in the series starts off on a high point and uses action and drama to carry that momentum through almost the entire story.  One enjoyable aspect of the book is the variation of the narrators, with John, Six, and Marina being among some to lead the book from their perspective.  As the number of characters/Garde increases, so does the complexity of the story and frequency of the surprising twists.  The Power of Six takes all the positives from the first book and adds to it.
