“Tonight’s escape fantasy stars Six.”

From Pittacus Lore’s Lorien Legacies: The Fall of Five.

Every time the teenage alien protectors of Earth (the Lorien Garde) get closer to locating the enemy alien (the Mogs) bases, it seems that the Mogadorians manage to push them back.  While John (Four) and the others have been fighting their own battles on a worldwide level and one-on-one, John’s human best friend has been captured by the Mogs until he is rescued by the most unlikely ally… a young Mog named Adam.  Recently, several members of the Garde have also been stricken with prophetic-like dreams that show nothing but defeat and destruction.  As the Mogs move forward with their plans for global takeover, the Garde and their friends must split up across the country for various missions.  After locating the missing Five, he is brought back their sort-of headquarters where he tells of his terrible life since their arrival on Earth years earlier.  When Five tells them that his chest is hidden in the Florida everglades, John tells the others that important items locked inside each chest are of the utmost importance for Earth’s survival, so Five and some of the others head south to retrieve it.  Just when it seems that things are starting to look up for the Garde, a betrayal will change the course the Garde’s lives for ever.

The fourth book in the series starts off on a high point and uses action and drama to carry that momentum through almost the entire story.  The narration bounces from character to character as the story develops which adds to the suspense, but it can be slightly confusing to keep the fonts separate early in the book.  As the number of characters/Garde increases, so does the complexity of the story and frequency of the surprising twists.  The Fall of Five takes all the positives from the previous books in the series and only adds to it.
