“Just off the main highway that runs through Waco, Texas, sits a pink house–one built in that kind of Southwestern adobe style you might find in Arizona or Nevada.”

From Clint Harp’s Handcrafted.

Clint Harp is widely known as the carpenter/television personality connected to the Fixer Upper world, but in his biography, he opens up and allows readers a chance to get to know his life story, his wife (Kelly) and kids (Hudson, Holland, and Camille), and the steps he took following his passion.  Clint shares various stories from his life that inspired his love of woodwork and risk-it-all-for-a-dream mentality.  Some of the stories highlight his family life, his early jobs, the people who impacted him, and ultimately the impact of HGTV’s Fixer Upper show.  The stories of Clint’s life are honest and heartfelt; a good reminder that while dreams may be destiny, they are almost always not without difficulty.  Each chapter begins with a personal reflection/description of a woodworking process that also reflects the theme of the chapter. Each chapter holds more openness from the author than the previous one, which creates an easy connection between the author and the reader.

Part inspirational non-fiction and part biography, the book manages to hold content that will appeal to a large array of readers.  Harp’s beliefs are an aspect of the book, but never in a pushy manner; through his inclusion of his faith, readers can easily see how the author’s life led him to where he is today, but probably not as much as many Christian readers were probably expecting.  Fans of the Fixer Upper and Wood Work shows will enjoy the book for the behind the scenes information and personal stories, but anyone looking for an encouraging and informational biography will enjoy the book.  Perhaps the best way to experience this book is with the audiobook read by the author, but no matter the format, readers will enjoy reading Harp’s willingness to step out and follow his dream.
