“It’s a widely known fact that most moms are ready to kill someone by eight thirty A.M. on any given morning.”

From Elle Cosimano’s Finlay Donovan Is Killing It.

Recently, Finlay’s life has been falling apart… a lot.  Not only is Steven, the ex-husband that left her for another woman, talking about taking custody of four-year-old Delia and two-year-old Jackson, but her career as a suspense romance writer has stalled.  Behind on countless bills and way behind on the deadline for her current book, Finlay goes to meet with her agent over lunch to discuss how quickly she’ll have to finish the book.  However, when a woman at the next table over overhears their conversation, she mistakes Finlay for an assassin and offers the stressed mom $50,000 to kill her husband, Harris.  Finlay instantly scoffs at the absurd offer, but she can’t resist looking into Harris’ life to see why his wife wants him dead, so after dropping her kids off with her sister, Finlay finds herself at a bar watching Harris across the room.  Witnessing him share an intimate booth with another woman, Finlay is sure Harris is a cheater, but when she witnesses him slip a pill in the woman’s drink, she decides to switch the glasses.  Through a crazy series of events, Finlay soon finds herself with a dead Harris and a body disposal buddy with her babysitter, Vero.  However, when Finlay realizes that she isn’t the one that actually killed Harris, she begins searching for the real killer that used Finlay’s involvement as a cover.

This mystery is filled with hilarious moments as the story initially develops from misunderstandings to murder.  The narrator is believable and engaging, easily drawing readers in to the story.  Finlay Donovan Is Killing It is a light, but unexpectedly enjoyable mystery that will keep readers engaged right to the last page.
