From James Patterson’s Maximum Ride: Final Warning.
After a recent fight between Max and the other human-bird hybrid kids in her flock, things have been tense… on top of the constant deadly danger that is their life. After the death of his son, the lead scientist that experimented the flock, Jeb, and Max form an uneasy alliance in an attempt for the flock to find freedom. A government meeting about their future goes terribly wrong, so the recently reunited flock returns to their sort-of home with Dr. Martinez, but a bomb quickly drives them into hiding. When Fang tells Max that he has romantic feelings for her, her fear to share her feelings with him drives a wedge between the two. A short time later, a voice in Max’s head tells her that the flock needs to go to Antarctica, and unable to explain or ignore the voice, she leads the flock south. When they arrive to the location where Max’s voice said to go, the flock finds a research mission documenting global warming effects, and the flock agrees to help the various scientists. The flock, even their experimented-on talking dog, begin to discover new abilities, but new killer technology is discovered and Fang is kidnapped, which leaves Max and the others scrambling to find those responsible before it’s too late.
