From Jenny B. Jones’ There You’ll Find Me.
Ever since her reporter older brother, Will, was killed in a terrorist attack, Finley has been adrift in life, searching for peace with her brother’s death and a reconnection with the long-silent God. Preparing for her audition to Manhattan Music Conservatory, Finley has used Will’s travel journal to create most of her original audition piece, but she has been able to compose a suitable ending. In an effort to feel closer to Will, Finley enrolls in a foreign exchange program in Ireland, and visit all the places from Will’s journal, but her journey to reconnect is off to a rocky start when she finds herself seated next to the young actor and tabloid-cover bad boy, Beckett Rush. Finley tries to put her rough airplane interaction with Beckett behind her, but she soon learns that he is staying at the bed and breakfast that her host family runs. While Finley’s host sister, Erin, helps her navigate school, her busy host family is unable to help Finley visit the places in Will’s journal, so she reluctantly accepts Beckett’s offer for help sightseeing and soon finds herself slowly falling for the actor. While assigned to connect with an angry elderly woman for a school, Finley also tries to avoid Beckett’s manager father and the young actresses that hate her closeness to Beckett. All Finley wants is to complete her song and reconnect with God, but she discovers that the only way to move forward may be to forgive herself for the past.
The inspiration for the movie Finding You, this book is sweet and funny, with some heartbreaking moments tactfully woven in to make the story genuine. Jones easily creates a solid cast of characters and happenings that grow with the main character as she searches for closure and answers for her struggling faith. There You’ll Find Me is a quick read that will captivate readers from start to finish and is definitely the perfect read for a lazy weekend.
