From Craig Groeschel’s Alter Ego.
Through this book, Groeschel aims to help people realize simple steps to take to recognize genuine worth, highlighting the value with which they were divinely created. Groeschel lays a foundation for the entire book in the first few chapters by encouraging the reader to let go of false labels that life marks people with, and instead encouraging readers to see themselves as God sees them: loved, valued, and wanted. Once Groeschel has helped the reader adjust their self-image, he moves to discussing how to live out that perspective to show that same image to others in life. Seeking to encourage passion in the reader’s life, Groeschel offers steps to help the reader be bold in every aspect of their life to further develop the image of who they are in God’s eyes. Never claiming that it will always be easy or enjoyable, Groeschel encourages readers that the longterm, and even eternal, rewards of keeping a strong divinely-focused self-image active in life far outweigh the negatives.
While Christians and those with a religious background will get the most out of this book, readers from all walks of life will find helpful and solid advice throughout the pages. Groeschel does well to not come off as holier-than-thou to the reader, because the author’s genuineness and conviction are constant reminders that Groeschel is trying to help readers while on the journey himself. Alter Ego is a quick read that offers readers a different perspective on life that is beneficial and inspiring.
