“Christopher was dead.”

From Elle Cosimano’s Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead.

In the month since struggling suspense romance author, Finlay found herself mistaken for an assassin and wrapped up in a real life murder mystery, the frazzled mom has been struggling with another dilemma: finding out who put a hit out on her cheating ex-husband, Steven. Ever since Finlay and Vero, her nanny and somewhat-accomplice found the post on the secretive website wishing Steven dead, they’ve been trying to determine the identity of the FedUp user, but when a user called EasyClean comments on the post to accept the job, Finlay dives in to protect the father of her children. As Finlay and Vero search for clues into the users’ true identity, Finlay is also struggling to meet her publisher’s deadline for a new book while also trying to sort out her feelings for handsome cop Nick and young lawyer Julian. When Steven suffers a series of near-miss accidents, Finlay and Vero realize that they are failed assassination attempts. However, the deeper Finlay looks into Steven’s life, the more questions and possible suspects she discovers in her race against the unknown assassin.

This second mystery in the series is again filled with humorous moments fueled by misunderstandings and a struggle to prevent a crime without implicating the main character.  The narrator is believable and engaging, easily drawing readers in to the story that steadily grows in complexity.  Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead is a light, but unexpectedly enjoyable mystery that will keep readers engaged from start to finish.
