“None of this stuff would have happened if I hadn’t been sitting next to Matthew Diaz.”

From Dave Barry’s The Worst Class Trip Ever.

Living in Miami, Florida has given Wyatt lots of experience with weird things being normal, but his eighth grade trip to Washington DC takes him on a crazier adventure than he ever expected. While Wyatt was hoping to have a chance to talk to his crush, Suzana, on the plane, he is instead stuck sitting next to his loud, highly-imaginative best friend, Matt.  When the boys observe the two men seated in the row behind them acting strangely, Matt decides that they must be planning an attack on the White House, and so Matt tries to take their backpack that he thinks must hold a bomb. After being proved wrong and getting in trouble with the Air Marshal and their teachers, Wyatt expected that would be the end of the experience.  However, when Matt tells Wyatt that he took a strange detonator-looking device from the backpack during the scuffle, things really get scary when the men start following the boys to get the device back. While Matt believes the men are dangerous, Wyatt wonders if it’s just because Matt stole the device or whatever it is.  The boys are nervous, but when the men kidnap Matt in exchange for the device that they hid in Suzana’s room, Wyatt, Suzana, and the boys’ roommates, Cameron and Victor, finds themselves desperately trying to rescue their friend and stop an attack on the White House.

Barry’s humor will easily propel readers through this interesting and unexpected story.  The characters are unique and each bring different insight to the twisting story. Readers will find The Worst Class Trip Ever a very engaging, quick read that’s impossible to put down.
