“Stop it!”

From Mari Mancusi’s Dangerous Secrets: The Story of Iduna and Agnarr.

Raised in the enchanted forest with the rest of the Northuldra people, life was peaceful and magical for young Iduna, despite her being an orphan.  Iduna and the rest of her people live in harmony with the nature spirits—wind, fire, earth, and water—while the Northuldra nation has agreed with the nearby kingdom of Arendelle to build a dam on the fjord as a peace treaty of sorts.  When fighting breaks out and the spirits are angered, Iduna rescues the Arendellian prince, Agnarr, and then finds herself unable to return home because of a magical barrier surrounding the enchanted forest.  Once Iduna arrives at the castle in Arendelle, she is in danger of being punished as a spy until the compassionate Lord Peterssen protects her by claiming she’s an orphan from Arendelle and telling her to keep her past secret.  Peterssen also brings Iduna in as a friend of sorts for Agnarr while the young boy prepares to fill the newly-vacated role of king.  As the two grow up, the opposites of their childhoods soon fall away and the two become close friends.  A few years later, a romance also begins to form between Agnarr and Iduna, but a string of small attacks around Arendelle places unbearable pressure on the soon-to-be-king.  Struggling to find a balance between their love and Agnarr’s responsibilities, Iduna’s secret past grows more dangerous to keep and threatens to destroy everything that they have together.

This movie tie-in for the Frozen franchise will be captivating for both fans of the films and those that have not experienced the story.  The story is full of elements that enhance the characters and happenings of the movies, but Mancusi also brings a freshness into the familiar settings.  Dangerous Secrets is a fast-paced read that will appeal to any reader that enjoys fantasy filled with mystery and romance.
