From Molly Brooks’ Sanity & Tallulah.
Best friends Sanity and Tallulah are used to being in the center of some mischief on their space station home, but when Sanity modifies old equipment to create a three-headed kitten named Princess Sparkle, Destroyer of Worlds, the girls find themselves in big trouble. When Tallulah’s chief science engineer mom grounds Tallulah, restricts Sanity’s lab access, and confines Princess to a lab, the girls sullenly accept their consequences. However, when Princess escapes the lab in the middle of the night, Sanity and Tallulah search for her, but they aren’t able to find her before the station officials discover both that she’s escaped and that something is wrecking havoc on many of the station’s systems. While Sanity’s station chief father and Tallulah’s mother try to handle all the issues impacting the station, Sanity and Tallulah decide to find Princess first to keep the kitten from the adults hunting her. The issues all around the station slows down the girls’ search for the kitten, but when Sanity realizes that the damage might be from something else entirely, it becomes a race to find the real culprit and clear Princess Sparkle, Destroyer of Worlds once and for all.
The color scheme of the graphic novel is interesting and the artwork is engaging for all the panels featuring up-close scenes. Brooks’ story is interesting, but the start does stumble a bit with the lack of world introduction. Sanity & Tallulah is a unique read that will connect with young readers searching for a friendship adventure set in a fun sci-fi world.
