“What are we going to do?”

From Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell’s The Edge Chronicles: Freeglader.

After the evil Vox Verlix set off a deadly Dark Maelstrom that destroyed Undertown, Rook and the other Librarians Academic fled the destruction with the residents of Undertown. The journey to the safety of the Free Glades is not without great danger though, especially for Rook who, after being separated from the group while looking for fellow Librarian Knight Xanth Filatine, temporarily loses his memory in a Sepia Storm. While the rest of the group is saved from terrible beasts by the Freeglade Lancers, Vox’s second in command, Amberfuce, delivers deadly Glade-Eater machines to the Goblins in preparation for an attack on the Free Glades. When his memory returns, Rook rejoins the other refugees in the Free Glades for a peaceful life, but not long after that he finds himself drawn into the War for the Free Glades. As the small, but noble Librarian Knights joined forces with the Freeglade Lancers against the Goblins and their Glade-Eaters, they face a violent war on all sides. As Rook and the others battle desperately in the losing war, they keep fighting in the hope that some miracle will help them before all is lost.

This fantastical adventure series is built of several character-following trilogies put together to create a complete world. The illustrations scattered throughout the book highlight characters and places that are definitely odd, but it also seamlessly creates the foundation for the highly imaginative world. As the third book in the Rook Trilogy, Freeglader creates a captivating story that will instantly pull readers into the action-packed fantasy world of The Edge Chronicles.
