From Dave Barry’s The Worst Night Ever.
Despite saving the President from an assassination attempt last year, Wyatt is currently struggling as a high school freshman. Wyatt’s time in high school is proving to be pretty difficult especially with his confusing friendship with the beautiful Suzana and the freshman-tormenting seniors Nick and Troy Bevin. After Wyatt’s idiot of a best friend, Matt, brings his ferret, Frank, to school, Wyatt witnesses Nick and Troy ferret-napping Matt’s beloved pet. The best friends decide to rescue Frank before the Bevin brothers feed him to their pet snake as promised, so they hatch a plan to meet up in the middle of the night, sneak into the Bevin’s gated community, and rescue Frank from wherever he’s being held in the Bevin mansion… all without being caught by the evil seniors and their millionaire father. Wyatt and Matt are able to navigate their way into the Bevin’s walled-in backyard with the help of their friend Victor and his drone, but on their way out with Frank, the real craziness begins. The boys witness the Bevin brothers unloading a komodo dragon from a boat and hiding it in a hidden underground cage. Barely able to escape, Wyatt and Matt are terrified of the dragon until Wyatt’s sister Taylor tells them the animal is endangered and shouldn’t be with the Bevins. Unfortunately, when the Bevin brothers accuse Wyatt of stealing from them, nobody will believe him with the exception of John, a former Fish and Wildlife agent desperate to prove his smuggling case against Mr. Bevin.
This second installment in the wild misadventures of Wyatt and Matt is full of non-stop fun. Readers of all ages will find enjoyment in Barry’s easy read. Not to be missed, The Worst Night Ever is a solid story that grabs readers and doesn’t let go until the final page.
