“‘Not even here in this place of ghosts and demons and half-formed things!’ bellowed the wild-eyed sky pirate captain, his voice cracking as he struggled to make himself heard above the screaming wind.”

From Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell’s The Edge Chronicles: Clash of the Sky Galleons.

Ever since his father and skilled sky pirate took him to search for the missing Turbot Smeal, young Quint has been faced with danger and a so-far-unsuccessful quest. In Undertown, Wind Jackel reconnected with Thaw Daggerslash and receives information about Turbot’s location, but Quint and his father are almost killed when they go to investigate, escaping at the last possible moment. The voyage heads off again but is halted by a large storm; when the sky ship needs to land in the Deepwoods, and Quint and his friend Maris are the first to descend off the ship. A decimating lightning strike to the ship sends it off into open sky, leaving Quint and Maris temporarily stranded alone in the woods. When Quint and Wind Jackel are able to reunite, they carry on with their search for both specific supplies and Turbot, but Thaw’s evil, mutinous plans begin to unfold which quickly places Quint in a power struggle for control of Wind Jackel’s crew and ship. Thaw’s deception and constant desire for control not contained, his actions soon threaten to overturn a war and end Quint’s life.
