Duncan and Alex are planning to spend their summer building abs then enjoying a secret fort in the woods behind their neighborhood, but they are thrilled when a moving van brings Sonia to their street. The three soon become friends and begin construction on their fort. While exploring the woods one day, the kids discover a hideout in a cave that is covered in Superman stuff. As a huge Superman fan, Sonia believes that all the Superman stuff means that the hideout must belong to the hero himself, but since Duncan doubts that Superman even exists, he doubts Sonia’s idea. Desperate to prove she’s right about the hideout and Superman’s existence, Sonia begins searching the woods for clues to find him. While Sonia is able to find the person behind the hideout, he isn’t quite what she expected but she quickly befriend him. When Duncan and Alex meet Sonia’s new friend, they are to keep his presence in Metropolis Grove a secret, but when the truth gets out, Sonia, Duncan, and Alex will learn what it really means to be a good friend.
This short graphic novel is a fun read for young fans of Superman and other DC Comic characters. Unexpected developments will keep readers engaged in the story, while the underlying heart gives the book its strength. Metropolis Grove is a quick, but memorable story that is perfect for a weekend read.
