When she covers the goo in the Coolsletter, Ruth begins to see a bump in subscribers, so she continues to investigate the country club and its owner, Mr. Koethcke
Desperate for more stories, Ruth keeps passing forward with her investigative reporting, but it quickly puts her at odds with her friends and family
However, when Ruth focuses on finding the truth behind the goo, she discovers a mystery that will change her town forever

While the story is interesting, the story does cover some elements that parents might not feel comfortable with younger children reading.
