“The reel screeched, nearly jerked the pole from my fingers.”

From Kathy Reichs and Brendan Reichs’ Virals: Code.

Tory and her friends Ben, Hi, and Shelton (and wolf dog, Cooper) have already had more life-threatening adventures in the short time since the teens were infected with a super, mutated virus than most people ever experience in their entire lifetime.  Even though the Pack has been able to emerge victorious from all of their dangerous excursions so far, Tory is still struggling to adjust to the full extent of her powers and the challenges at home that come in the form of her father’s girlfriend’s ever-present desire for Tory to be a lady (Not. Gonna. Happen.).  Just as things start to settle into a nice rhythm for the teens, they discover a geocache box with a mysterious puzzle inside.  In true Virals fashion, they are able to solve the puzzle and learn the second clue left behind by the enigmatic Gamemaster; not the type to let a mystery go unsolved, the Pack sets off on a journey that will put their powers and friendships to the test like never before.

The third installment in the Virals series, Code picks up where Seizure left off and uses the momentum from the previous book(s) and carries it through the entire novel.  The mystery of the book is very entertaining and due to the choices that the characters make in chasing The Gamemaster’s puzzles, it creates a strong life-or-death series of events that push the reader to keep reading.  This book also steps away from the previous books in terms of getting to know the four main characters; we are allowed to get to know the characters in a whole new light.  There is drama, action, humor, and a touch of romance all wound together to create a powerful story in Code.
